   Haibo and Teng Biao's " Dream Wandering" Exhibition
   


   Opening in New York on December 14, 2018
   
   
   The 18 ink paintings on the exhibition, drawn with oriental black ink blocks and rice paper, are the remarkable creations of two artists: Haibo and Teng Biao. These works reflect the artists’ new ideas in recent years. The painter Haibo expresses his unique composition and care for humanity, based on his astute observations, intense and painful experiences, and independent thinking regarding the country and the history. The new thoughts and styles expressed in the paintings are extraordinary in recent history of contemporary art.
   
   In 2013, Dr. Teng Biao was invited to give a speech in Europe,and reunited with Haibo in a beautiful windmill village of the Netherlands. Together, they recalled a special time at Peking University 17 years ago. It was in the mid-1990s, and the two were holding an Exhibition at Peking University for the well-known painter and cartoonist Mr. He Wei. Because of his photographs of the Tiananmen Movement of 1989,Haibo had been out of contact with the outside world.
   
   Since then, Haibo has been traveling around China, Thailand, and Europe, to enrich his life experiences, while continuing to explore the art of sorrow and joy. He fearlessly returned to the oriental traditional culture, once again introducing the oriental artistic techniques and style into his work. As a result, his original paintings and photography creations were once again enhanced. Haibo has been guided and inspired by the well-known predecessors of the Chinese art world, including Wang Chaowen, Wu Zuoren, Luo Gongliu, Zhang Wei, Huang Zhou, Pu Jie, Qi Gong, Wu Zuguang, Xiao Shufang, Wen Lipeng, Yan Shangyi, Li Qun, Hou Yimin, and Guang Jun, etc. In the meantime, Teng Biao has become a legal scholar, university instructor, and brave human rights lawyer. But Biao also has a poetic and artistic side: he does not only write poems and novels, but also indulges himself in the exploration and creation of calligraphy.
   
   In this reunion, Haibo and Teng Biao were in deeper communication and the two inspired each other, which led to the new collaboration of the two artists (even with one residing in Europe and the other in United States).
   
   This exhibition will present 18 oriental ink paintings (size: 140cmx70cm). In these paintings, Haibo expressed his complex feelings toward current events, and his inner distress and sadness. The works present unique life forms, rebellious spirits, and artistic tensions through the techniques of transformation, exaggeration, and refining. The composition of the paintings reflects the unique creativity of the artist. His art emphasizes "peril", "wonder", "void", and "nihility." These expressive works often feature perilous peaks and formidable rocks, lonely mountains and vast seas. They reflect the concepts that “form does not differ from emptiness” and “emptiness does not differ from form.” The inspiration is “feeling white as black” and the expression upholds integrity. The brushstrokes convey a strong sense of the great love and great pain of the period in the artists’ native China, exemplify the profound melancholy that the artists feel about living in exile, and appeal for a speedy reawakening in the East.

   ——海波、滕彪博士《夢游畫展》12月14日在紐約開幕
   
   此次展出的水墨山水畫,用東方黑色墨塊、宣紙等工藝材料所繪製,是反映了兩位藝術家近年來新思維的佳作。在繪畫中表現了畫家海波的獨特構思與人性關懷,對時代、國家和歷史做出鮮明的觀察、深痛的體驗和獨立的思考,這是當代美術史上近期不多見的新思維、新創作。
   
   2013年,在荷蘭美麗的風車村,海波與應邀到歐洲講演的滕彪博士再度會面,他們回憶了十七年前在北京大學的那段時光。那是九十年代中期,兩人為著名漫畫家何韋先生在北大校園舉辦了“個人漫畫展”。因海波一九八九年春在北京天安門廣場拍紀實攝影一事遺留下來的問題,海波與外界斷絕了聯繫。
   
   那之後,海波在中國各地、在泰國、在歐洲輾轉奔波、體驗生命,同時繼續進行悲欣交集的藝術探索。他無畏地回歸了東方傳統文化之中,再一次引入了東方藝術創作技法與藝術境界,使原來的繪畫、攝影藝術創作再度昇華。中國藝術界的知名前輩王朝聞、吳作人、羅工柳、張仃、黃冑、溥傑、啟功、吳祖光、蕭淑芳、聞立鵬、靳尚誼、力群、候一民、廣軍等,在海波的藝術道路上都親自給予過指導。滕彪則成為法律學者、大學教師、勇敢的人權律師;但他也有詩性、藝術的一面:他不但寫詩和小說,還醉心于書法研習和創作。
   
   兩人重逢之後,在不斷深入的交流中產生新的共識啟發,這讓旅美、旅歐的藝術家有了新合作。
   
   此次展出的十八幅東方水墨畫(尺寸:140cmx70cm),是海波以繪畫方式表達對時代的複雜感情,同時也抒發了藝術家內心的抑鬱和悲傷,作品通過變形、誇張、提煉,表現了獨特的生命形態、反抗精神和藝術張力。在畫中可以看出作者在構圖上的獨特創意,同時特別強調了“險”、“奇”、“空”、“虛”,險峰危石,山水空茫,色不異空,空不異色,畫意知白守黑,神態正氣不阿,反映了中國時代的大愛與大痛苦,反映了藝術家們客居他鄉的中國情思,是願東方早日亮起。
